After kicking off one of the essentially great futuristic trilogies in the same way as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, director Rupert Wyatt left the realm of science fiction to create the crime substitute The Gambler in the same way as Mark Wahlberg. What's compelling just about this flyer is that it is essentially teasing a film just about a dystopian future, set 10 years after an alien invasion, but it looks unconditionally every other from what we usually look from dystopian movies or those just about alien invasions. What we look here is a street-level battle that tells the explanation of what happens long after the clash has been lost.
This isn't just about meting out forces and leaders of nations clash to protect the planet, this is just about run of the mill citizens becoming soldiers in order to resist an occupation. Captive own up is dealing in the same way as the realities of the common person breathing in a world where extra-terrestrials have taken greater than and where collaborators are viewed as traitors and dissidents are viewed as terrorists.
That is a explanation that has many genuine world parallels, both historical and modern, and that adds a feeling of reality to what we are seeing here. The fact that the extra-terrestrials are largely absent from the flyer only enhances that, as the totalitarian regime wearing a kind grin and saving us from ourselves doesn't feel in the same way as science fiction, but something that can actually happen.
There is a grittiness to this flyer too. It isn't a glossy look at fancy alien technology, nor does it have the feel of a YA dystopian blockbuster. This feels unconditionally stuck and everything looks homemade. We hear "You gotta pick a side," but it's distinct that nothing is black and white, and the murky gray morality united in the same way as either unusual is reflected in the drab color palette this film employs.
The flyer for Captive own up is then quite thrilling and intense as citizen soldiers try to carry out some crucial mission adjacent to the occupiers. Ashton Sanders' and John Goodman's characters look in the same way as they may be playing both sides in a unconditionally risky game that could have us on the edge of our seats in the same way as this hits theaters.
While Captive own up does look somewhat unique on the cinematic landscape, it bears mentioning that the explanation of an alien pastime and the collaborator/dissident committed is unconditionally thesame to what the TV accomplishment Colony did on USA for three seasons. Nevertheless, that accomplishment touched on some difficult and engaging topics and I expect Captive own up to accomplish the same.
